While Platform Development Tools receive less press attention than the SDK and ADK, they remain critical in the success of doing the initial port of the OS of various hardware. We will start by presenting the challenges commonly faced by developer in the creation of a custom platform and continue by presenting how OBS Light improve the initial Learning curve issue, the challenge of mixing private and open source code, the integration of local work-flow with the OBS cloud based service (such as provided by MeeGo or Tizen) and the management of continuous change as we live every day in the Open Source domain versus the requirement of long term stability as it is imposed by the Automotive industry.
